Weeksville Heritage Center
Located at the historic site of the Weeksville community, Weeksville Heritage Center (WHC) is a national leader in the preservation of Black history and the celebration of Black arts & culture.
Historic Weeksville was founded in 1838 as one of the nation’s first and largest free Black communities. It was nearly lost to history until the rediscovery of the Hunterfly Road Houses in 1968. After a painstaking restoration of the Houses, WHC was launched as the only institution of its kind in Brooklyn.
Today, we are a home and resource for our neighbors in Central Brooklyn and a multitude of global thinkers, tastemakers, artists, scholars, and activists.
