Join us for our highly anticipated exhibition opening of Sandy Williams IV’s 40 ACRES: Weeksville. Dive deeper into Sandy’s artistic journey and the making of 40 ACRES: Weeksville during an intimate screening and discussion with the artist and Erica Harper, Weeksville’s Vice President of Learning and Engagement.


Weeksville Watch Nights: The Black Radical Tradition

February 17th, 12pm EST

In honor of Black History Month we will be screening Conversations: The Black Radical Tradition, a documentary that features first-hand accounts from legendary figures of resistance, exploring the facets of the Black Radical Tradition, including Pan-Africanism, Marxism, and faith-based approaches.


Weeksville Watch Nights: I Heard It Through The Grapevine

February 17th, 5pm EST

In honor of Black History Month, Alfreda’s Cinema and Weeksville Heritage Center proudly present the powerful documentary drama, “I Heard It Through the Grapevine.” Join us for an evening as we dive into James Baldwin’s travels from New York to the South & reflect on what it means to be in a “post” civil rights era.


Black Quiztory

February 24th, 6pm EST

Think you know Black history? Then come test your skills at the first annual Weeksville Black Quiztory! 

Join us and compete for the title of Weeksville Black Quiztory champion. Questions will cover Black history from 1526 to the present. All ages are welcome and the only requirement is a phone or other mobile device. Prizes will be awarded to the top three contestants.


Torchlight Talk: The Gist of Bid Whist by Lamont Jones

February 29th, 6pm EST

This month’s Torchlight Talk is with a twist…it’s card night! We will be in conversation with author Lamont Jones about his new book and the significant historical links between the card game and Black folks throughout history. 

Following the talk, Lamont will give a mini-tutorial on the basics of Bid Whist. Open play will follow so bring your favorite partner and come prepared to play your game of choice may it be Spades, Bridge, Hearts, or Gin Rummy!
