Black Visionaries: Weeksville Then and Now
As we embark on this transformative journey into the heart of art and history at Weeksville Heritage Center, we find ourselves eagerly anticipating the unveiling of our 3rd annual benefit event. With great pride, we present the visionary work of Nona Hendryx, acclaimed as Weeksville’s 2025 Artist in Residence, and the esteemed Dream Machine Studio team, as they unveil the remarkable mural, “Black Visionaries: Weeksville Then and Now.”
This captivating mural embodies the essence of nine months of meticulous research within Weeksville’s archive, thorough explorations on the hallowed grounds, and deep collaborations with our dedicated team. It seeks to shed light on the origins and evolution of Weeksville, sharing engaging narratives amidst the ongoing restoration work that temporarily limits house tours.
“Black Visionaries: Weeksville Then and Now” stands as a transformative music-infused, mixed-reality masterpiece. It intricately weaves together themes such as Weeksville’s identity as an oasis, a beacon of Black self-determination, a hub of creativity, and a symbol of profound connection to the land.
Through the amalgamation of archival imagery, storytelling, music, and the voices of our community today, this mural pays homage to the unsung heroes who have shaped Weeksville’s extraordinary legacy.
Let us consider the resilient spirit of Weeksville, bringing us together to honor its legacy, and inspires thoughtful reflection and unity toward a more just world. Opening at our 3rd annual benefit on May 1, 2025.
