Weeksville Curator-in-Residence

Weeksville Curator-in-Residence
Now accepting proposals for 2026
Deadline: June 3, 2025 11:59pm ET

Weeksville Heritage Center’s Curator-in-Residence (CIR) Program supports emerging and mid-career curators in realizing a public exhibition, installation, or set of performances at Weeksville’s campus. Each year, one curator or curatorial team is selected through a competitive open call and nomination process.

About the Residency

CIRs work closely with WHC staff to present new or existing work from artists across disciplines and career stages. Projects should activate Weeksville’s indoor and/or outdoor presentation spaces, engage with the institution’s mission and history, and include a component of community connection—whether through collaboration, public participation, or local engagement.

We prioritize projects led by or featuring Brooklyn-based Black, Brown, and Indigenous artists who have been historically marginalized in institutional spaces.

What We Provide

  • Assistance with site visits, installation, public programming development, and marketing
  • $10,000 curatorial stipend
  • Participating artist honoraria and production budget
  • Institutional support in project planning, budgeting, contracting, and documentation
  • Access to WHC’s various presentation sites on campus
  • Engagement with  archival collections (photo, oral history, artifact/object, printed matter)

  • A public-facing exhibition, installation, or performance project set to be launched in January 2026
  • A community-engaged event (e.g., curatorial talk, panel, workshop, or walk-through)
